This project is very close to my heart as the photographs are of my Grandmother and family. at the age of 86 my Grandma, Alice, had a stroke while in her apartment in Queens, NY. She had gone from a completely independent woman living on her own to someone that was completely dependent on people needing 24-hour care.
this is a look at her journey, as well as a look at her possessions, after she had her stroke. Thinking she was going to get better and eventually realizing that this was how she was to spend her final days.
The stroke had left her completely paralyzed on the left side of her body. Which left her confined to a wheelchair. The question of money and where she was going to live suddenly became an issue, as she could no longer live on her own. Her New York State teachers pension was no longer sufficient enough to support her. And overnight my mom had become the "mom" to her own mother.
